vera has a couple of exercises planned…1/19/08 at 10 am slt..an er exercise. The surgical exercise is for 1/26/08 10 am slt (both are saturdays) and then we’ll have our first monthly student meeting at 11:30 am on 1/26. So if you’re interested in being a student you can come see these and join in and talk to one of the docs about membership. All ammc students should plan to be at ammc for these. Let’s keep dr. Ann’s dream alive!
Many of you know that my health is quickly deteriorating. As such, the time has come for me to leave the AMMC. My hope is that I have given you all you need to keep the center alive and growing - making it far better than I could ever have acquired.
I will retain an advisory position and be available for meetings for as long as I possibly can. It has been my sincere and greatest pleasure knowing and meeting all of you. I have been utterly delighted with the small steps we have achieved.
After the BioPharm event, my time in SL will be severly limited and when I am in, save for AMMC meetings and lectures and/or events. Please keep in mind, it will not be long before I am unable to attend these functions, as well.
Thank you to each of you for catching my vision and trying to build something international. I dare say we could have achieved more had we been purely based within one institution. I still retain my conviction that an international arena for medical study and collaboration is more than possible and is highly probable, if we move forward. I will do what I can for the limited time I will remain available.
With much warmth and care towards all of you,
Ann

Avelient Biopharm (http://avelient.com/BioPharmBlog/?p=52) will be hosting The New York Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology December Meetup. You can read about the event here: http://biotech.meetup.com/34/calendar/6730048/ . They will be visiting the AMMC on December 10th - I realize it is late for the majority of you, but it would be helpful if we could get together and plan something to promote what we are trying to achieve. I will post this information as a notice in-world, as well. Please let me know if you have thoughts, ideas or want to hold a demonstration.

Elsevier recently released the medical Wiki: www.wiserwiki.com. Matteats Burger is a representative of Elsevier in SL and also a member of the AMMC. His colleague, Michelle Lee (contact Matt for Michelle’s SL-avatar’s name) has offered her assistance to help physicians register on the WIKI site. Anyone can read the Wiki site, but only physicians can edit and add content to the Wiki.
As well, Eslevier is interested in assisting the AMMC to develop training programs. Please send content thoughts and ideas to MattEats Burger in SL. He can also put you in touch with Michelle Lee.

I apologize that I am just getting back to things in SL. I am trying to catch up in the real world with all my various duties and have had difficulties keeping up with SL matters.
We are finishing the building, which I estimate should take another couple of weeks at the most. I have asked everyone for their ideas for the Center (Such as building a Cardiac wing, what type of builds to place, where the wing should be, etc.), but as yet I have not had much feedback.
As it is October and Breast Cancer Awareness month, Vera Zhaoying is working to hold a BCA event around the end of the month. She has the assistance of the Breast Cancer Group and the American Cancer Society within SL, so we are hoping for a good turn out and to hold a fun event where people might actually learn a few things, as well.
I will try to catch up to everything related to the AMMC and SL as soon as possible. I am still trying to get through my long list of E-mails and messages and will hopefully be able to respond to everyone in turn.
I thank everyone for their warm thoughts of me and of my family at this very difficult time.

Ann spoke at the acs dedication today through skype…her father was a past director. If you didn’t hear it it was really moving and a great tribute. The whole service was moving.

Davis is creating a new AMMC building….this will take time. Dont be distressed if you come to us and find a building in pieces. It should be great when we’re finished.
