Congratulations to Dr Flanagan. No more being used as the coffee runner for the medical staff :-). Look forward to hearing from you about the conference on death and dying. Do they hand out life insurance gift certificates at the conference or do they just give you pens?
Ha JRS medical,
This is a reply from a coffee runner yet,
beside the conference you refer too and wrong expectations about gifts you may receive during the conference, i hope you take a look in Second Life and explore what AMMC is and what it does.
greetings Vera
Hello,
I am a medical doctor from Florida, now living in Norway, where I will work with treating adolescent substance misusers. I’ve been, therefore, exploring the innovative aspects of medicine 2.0/eHealth. I have just explored second life (although couldn’t find Ann Meyers Medical Center) and am incredibly excited to see an amazing direction this platform can take in the near future!!!!!
How does one get involved/contribute in the incredible work of the Ann Meyers Medical Center?
Ha Dr Jessica,
Apologies for late aswering, if you look up Vera Zhaoying in search while in second life, i give you a tour around AMMC.
greetings Vera Zhaoying

RL intern in Holland
Vera,
I’m part of a class at the University of Minnesota studying online communities. We are all educators from different diciplines learning to teach via distance technology. This evening sometime between 4:30 to 7:30 pm (central time US) I will show the class the AMMC site in second life. If somebody from AMMC were there to tell us about the work of AMMC that would be wonderful. I understand this may be difficult given the time difference between Holland and the central United States. I plan to meet my group in the garden outside the AMMC lobby. My avatar is named “Wes Gubrux”.
Thank you,
Eric Vogel
University of Minnesota
As further explanation to my earlier request for a tour–our class looks at how to achieve a social connection in learning-teaching situations via computer. We know that when people feel there is a human connectionin distance learning that they are more comfortable and are more likely to complete the learning experience. We are exploring ways to create human learning communities online.
Greetings Mr Vogel
I am both intern in AMMC, because i truly believe in the concept of AMMC and her creator Dr Ann Buchannan, as an intern in Holland.
AMMC is orginally a US institution, but has global participants and collaboration.
The rest is a personal comment, i will be honered to give you and others a tour around WHC.
But do remember i am only intern in AMMC.
greetings Vera Zhaoying
for more information i bring you in contact in sl,
with the AMMC board to further answer your questions.
disclaimer, i am dutch so please disregard typo or grammitical errors
Hi there!
I am working with Dr. Harry McConnell, a professor in neuropsychiatry at Griffith University and clinical director of Consultation-Liaison psychiatry at Gold Coast Hospital, Australia. We have been looking at using online environments for collaboration and teaching of clinical skills, especially with a neuropsychiatry and disability flavour. It is our hope to develop specific patient scenarios and use second life as a learning environment for students and trainees.
It would seem our goals are fairly similar (along with many of the other doctors who have expressed interest on this site!) and we would very much like to learn more about the AMMC.
Is Dr Buchannan open to collaboration in this area? Would the facilities in AMMC be available for holding short clinical skills sessions a few times a year, for example?
I look forward to your reply! 🙂
Regards,
Chris Richmond

greetings Dr Mc Connel
Aplogies for late reaction.
The reaction is from one of the interns by the way.
Since our physians are also in rl physians, they tend to have limited time.
I go ask if your question can be answered a.s.a.p.
In the mean time, if you have an avatar in second life, can you contact me in world.
I can give you a tour around AMMC.
greetings Vera Zhaoying
Thank-you Vera!
I’ll try organise a time with Dr. McConnell when we can both get together and meet you in Second Life. Your help is very much appreciated!
Regards,
Chris
Ha Dr Richmond
If you and Dr Mc Donnel have set a time for a meeting, can you please contact me in Second life?? I like to bring you in contact then with our psychology and psychiatry staff in AMMC.
